COURTESY VISIT BY THE COORDINATOR OPERATION SAFE CORRIDOR

The Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, MFR, mni on 2nd June, 2025 played host to the Coordinator of Operation Safe Corridor (OPSC), Brigadier General Y Ali at the Correctional Service Headquarters, Abuja.
 
During the visit, Brig. Gen. Ali acknowledged the vital role played by the Nigerian Correctional Service in the custody, rehabilitation, and deradicalization of ex-combatants. He lauded the Service for its professionalism and steadfast support in ensuring that Operation Safe Corridor achieves its mandate of de-radicalizing and reintegrating ex-combatants through its multi-agency, community-driven approach while specially commending the competence of the NCoS personnel and technical experts deployed to the operation.
 
In his remarks, the Controller-General expressed great delight in the all important visit and reiterated the Service’s commitment to national security through effective rehabilitation and reformation programs. He expressed appreciation for the ongoing synergy with Operation Safe Corridor and pledged the NCoS’s continued support in providing technical expertise in the deradicalization process. Both parties emphasized the need to strengthen inter-agency cooperation, share best practices, and scale up rehabilitation initiatives in alignment with national and international human rights standards. The visit concluded with a symbolic exchange of plaques and a joint commitment to a more strengthened collaboration for the success of the program.
 
The visit underscores the continued collaboration between the military and the Nigerian Correctional Service in the deradicalization and reintegration of repentant ex-combatants into the society.
